Hanging Grapes Oil on Board Painting by Elizabeth Borglum 1848-1922
Description
American Still Life is one of my favorite genres, and this is a wonderful example by an important and gifted American female artist working in the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries. Besides the natural beauty she has captured in her work, it is presented in such a handsome and appropriate frame. I love this piece. You will too. Oil on hardboard, c. 1900. 20" x 14". Outside frame dimensions are 27" x 21".

Also known as Elizabeth Janes (Jaynes) Putnam
An established California painter and teacher, Elizabeth Borglum participated in exhibitions of the Western Art Association in Omaha, Nebraska in 1888 and 1890. In a November 16 Omaha World-Herald newspaper review of the 1890 event, Elia Peattie wrote: ". . . there is always the really beautiful work of Mrs. Borglum.”
Elizabeth's involvement was through the friendship of her husband, sculptor Gutzon Borglum, and George Lininger, Omaha’s pioneering art collector, who was founder and President of the Western Art Association. In a gallery connected to his home, Lininger housed a personal collection of about 300 works including Old Masters, Egyptian mummies, decorative arts, and paintings by American artists including the Borglums.
