This is the finest painting I have bought in a while, and the best still life I have found in years. James Poulton is a well-listed British artist. He lived in Homerton and Dalston and flourished between 1844 and 1859, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, The British Institution, and The Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street. 
This museum-quality painting is perfect for a formal dining room or for anyone who loves. as I do, "paintings of the humble truth," as William H.  Gerdts, the noted American Art Historian used to call still life painting.
20" x 24" oil on canvas, signed lower right. Outside frame dimensions are 27" x 31".
