Truly Majestic Kwan Yin Guanyin Vintage Blanc de Chine 17" Tall!
Description
This is one of the most intricately ornate Kwan Yin statuettes I have ever seen. She stands a stately 17 inches tall and has a rich creamy sheen. I believe she is from around the turn of the twentieth century. Though she is very old she is nearly perfect. There is a tiny chip to two fingers on her right hand, and what appear to be age or foundry cracks to the lotus leaf to her back. (See last two photos.) She is one of the most beautiful things I have. And she can be yours. Chinese, Blanc de Chine porcelain 17" x approx. 4.5" c. 1900.

Guanyin is a common Chinese name of the bodhisattva associated with compassion known as Avalokiteśvara. Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World. On the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, Guanyin's attainment of Buddhahood is celebrated. Guanyin has been incorporated into other religions, including Taoism and Chinese folk religion.
