Amalfi Coast Monastery - 1930's Pastel with Memorabilia on the Back!

Nostalgia, sweet nostalgia! The back of this wonderful picture is a virtual travelogue of beauty and charm, covered with photos, newspaper clippings, and hand-written notes. The lovely pastel was created in the 1930s, when this exotic place was still a monastery. The story seems to speak of glamorous wealthy travelers seeking the chicest of destinations. I can just hear that old song "A cigarette that bears the lipstick traces. An airline ticket to romantic places." 

Originally a 13th-century monastery, it is now luxury hotel (see last photo) perched on a cliff top 80 meters above the sea level and features unparalleled views over the Amalfi Coast. An inspiration for artists and painters throughout the centuries. The lemon gardens and the monks’ walk, a panoramic trail where guests can enjoy the Mediterranean garden and a spectacular panorama. Sited in front of the entrance of the church, the Norman-Arabic cloister encloses a four-sided colonnade.
