Description

This is a powerful oil on canvas version of Leslie Ragan's "The New 20th Century Limited". Everything about it tells me it was painted near the time the poster was presented. (1938). It appears to be in its original frame, but has been placed on newer stretchers sometime later, but not very recently. Look at the 2nd and third photos from the last. You will see the old holes and the new staples. The canvas is relatively clean for the age. This made me think it had been lined. But on examination out of the frame I saw that it wasn't. Then I noticed the paper on the back of the frame. It is obvious that originally, the painting had a protective paper backing, which explains the clean canvas. The paper would have been removed when the previous owner replaced the stretchers. I have tried to photograph and describe as accurately as I can. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or request further photos. Oil on canvas, signed lower left SN 20" x 16".
